King Mohammed holds phone talks with Mauritanian president
Morocco-Mauritania, Politics, 11/20/2000

Morocco's King Mohammed VI held on Saturday phone talks with Mauritanian president Mouaouiya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya over "the excellent relations linking the two countries and peoples."

The king is expected to visit Mauritania next year.

Meanwhile, a reliable source in Rabat denied rumors over the existence of a crisis between the two Maghreban countries, explaining that the postponement of the royal visit to Mauritania was a joint decision after a degradation of the situation in the occupied territories.

Some foreign papers had linked the visit delay to Mauritania's failure to cut diplomatic relations with Israel.

The source also insists relations between the two countries are excellent and marked by mutual respect and cooperation to serve interests of the two countries and peoples.

In Nouakchott, Mauritanian minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Ahmed Ould Sid Ahmed, voiced Saturday at a press conference, satisfaction at the "brotherly, diversified, excellent and exemplary Moroccan-Mauritanian relations."

The head of the Mauritanian diplomacy, who recalled that he met Moroccan peer, Mohamed Benaissa, in Marseilles, southern France at the Euro-Mediterranean conference, said Morocan-Mauritanian relations are getting further consolidated for the well-being of the two peoples.
