Sudanese ruling party rejects al-Mahdi party proposal to postpone presidential, parliamentary elections

The ruling national congress party in Sudan has refused proposals made by the leader of the Ummah party al- Sadeq al-Mahdi on postponing presidential and parliamentary elections due to be held in December.
The party's secretary general Ibrahim Ahmad Omar said in press statements issued in al-Khartoum on Friday that the return back of al-Sadeq al-Mahdi which is due on November 23 comes following extending the period of nomination for the presidential elections.
On the other hand, in a statement after he returned back from Cairo, the Sudanese minister of justice Ali Muhammad Othman gave details on proposals made by al-Sadeq al-Mahdi concerning the elections. He explained that al-Mahdi's proposals on postponing the elections to a later stage aims at completing the arrangements for reconciliation and the participation of all political forces.
Muhammad Othman said that al-Mahdi with whom he met in Cairo, told him ( the minister ) about his attempt to maintain national reconciliation and stability in Sudan.
On the other hand, the chairman of the political sector of the al-Ummah party al-Zahawi Ibrahim said in a statement to the Sudanese daily al-Raid al-Am issued on Thursday that stages of initial negotiations between the government and al-Ummah on defining the general characteristics of the final draft agreement between the two sides.
Ibrahim explained that the two sides have set four pillars for detailed negotiations that are discussed through four committees discussing peace, unity, the ruling system, public freedoms and guarantees to them.
