European union should re-consider stand on immigration and fisheries, Fihri says
Morocco-European Union, Politics, 11/17/2000
The European Union should re-consider its approach to cooperation with Morocco in the social sector and in immigration and sea-fisheries, said secretary of state to foreign affairs and cooperation Taieb Fassi Fihri.
The official told "Asharq Al Awsat" of Thursday how he deplored the EU response which showed stands of different countries towards immigration when the kingdom expected a European vision going beyond the current stand based on inter-government relations.
He also said Brussels should look again into Moroccan proposals on fishery cooperation and get closer to the kingdom's position which strives to preserve resources and promote the sector through European investments.
Fihri saw as unsatisfactory European aid saying its volume is no compensation for overture of Moroccan markets to European products. He insisted economic institutions will be reformed with or without European aid recalling however how the European Union had pledged genuine assistance to Moroccan institutions.
