International meeting on science and society opens in Mohammedia

An international meeting on "Science and Society" opened Mohammedia Tuesday to debate for three days scientific breakthroughs and problems they raise in society.
The event staged by the city school of humanities and the French national scientific research center (CNRS) and attended by scholars from several countries probes issues of relevance to scientific research such as ethics and genetic manipulation.
It is also an opportunity to trade views and experiments and promote scientific cooperation.
In his opening speech, secretary of state to scientific research, Omar Fassi Fihri, dealt with human interaction with information technologies and bio-technologies which do have considerable impact on the intellect as well as on food production.
The meeting covers "Renewable energies," "Space conquest and new territories," "Prospective and futurology" and "Role of ethics and research promotion."
The event also includes thematic exhibitions and a festival of scientific films co-produced by the CNRS and the Moroccan 2M television channel.
