Al-Bashir nominated for a new presidential term

The Sudanese al-Jazira province on Sunday nominated President Omar Hassan al-Bashir as a candidate for the presidency of the National Congress party while other political parties unanimously approved his nomination for a second presidential term of office.

On the other hand, the secretary general of the elections commission Jalal Muhammad Ahmad said in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Sudanese daily al-Rai al-Am that the Sudanese official Hussein Mansour and Malik Hussein submitted as nominee for the Presidency and that former Sudanese President Jaafar al-Numeiri also on Tuesday applied as a nominee for the presidency.

Meantime, the ruling national congress party announced names of its candidates for the parliamentary elections and nominated its secretary general professor Ibrahim Ahmad Omar for circle 13 in Um Durman.

The party also presented several of its leaderships within the names of the candidates most of them are officials.

Professor Ibrahim Omar, the secretary of the national congress said in a statement to the Sudanese daily al-Anbaa " we do not find contradiction between the elections and the march of reconciliation, adding that these are steps taken to complete the constitutional set up.

On the possibility of the People's Congress party, led by Hassan al-Turabi, joining the elections and presenting its candidates independently, Ibrahim Omar said if such a thing happens it will be a legal act, in regard to nomination and voting and they will not be prevented from doing so if the wish to.

Worthy mentioning the door to the presidential and parliamentary elections which was opened on Monday morning will be closed today Wednesday.
