Moroccan teachers go on 2-day strike in december
Morocco, Education, 11/14/2000
Moroccan Teachers affiliated to two trade unions have announced a two-day "warning" strike next December 13 and 14 at all education levels.
A joint communiqué of the executive bureaus of teachers unions of the UGTM (close to the Istiqlal party) and the CDT (close to the prime minister's USFP party) explains that the strike was decided to protest the government's failure to honor its commitments despite all moves and initiatives taken by the two trade unions.
The statement deplores the government's "partial and selective" handling of the teachers' grievances and voices the two unions' readiness to carry on negotiations to meet the teachers' grievances, particularly those related to the profession statute and compensations.
