Tuna-fisheries ought to contribute to development, fishery minister says

Sea-Fishery minister Said Chabaatou underscored in Marrakesh Monday the necessity for developing countries to rely more on tuna-fisheries in social and economic development.
Opening the 12Th session of the international conservation commission of Atlantic tuna (ICCAT), the minister said the commission must design a new approach for a more efficient management of the tuna-fishery sector and see to a fairer repartition of the sector dividends.
Delegates of the 28 countries of ICCAT will discuss for one week quotas of the contracting parties for 2001 and 2002, blue-fin tuna and sword-fish in the Atlantic, Carribean and Mediterranean.
