Al-Mahdi against presidential, parliamentary elections in Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 11/14/2000
The leader of the Sudanese Ummah council al-Sadeq al-Mahdi said that the proposal he submitted to the government concerning the elections, stresses his total rejections to having presidential or parliamentary elections.
In a statement to the Sudanese daily al-Rai al-Am issued on Monday, al-Mahdi added that the Sudanese Ummah party will not recognize the results of the declared elections because these elections lack the constitutional and legal grounds.
Al-Mahdi explained that the message he had sent to the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir last week stressed his party's rejection to making the elections, noting that he had informed President al-Bashir about the date of his return back to the country of November 23rd.
