Morocco calls for promoting inter-Islamic trade

Morocco on Sunday called on Islamic countries to promote trade exchanges and economic cooperation to face up new technologies challenges.

"The deep evolution and changes marking international economic relations in the beginning of the new millenium (`) call us to promote economic cooperation and trade exchanges," said King Mohammed VI in a speech before the 9th Islamic summit, held over the weekend in Doha, Qatar.

In the message that was read out by Prince Moulay Rachid, the KING stressed the need to ease inter-Islamic movement of capital, services and expertise to fructify cooperation and complementarity potentials to materialize Muslim peoples' aspirations.

Touching on the situation in Africa, King Mohammed VI said the continent still suffers from chronic economic problems, calling the Organization of Islamic Conference and its specialized agencies to focus efforts on Africa.

"Morocco, which is bound to Africa by solid human and spiritual bonds, reaffirms the need to help the continent come out of its marginalization and overcome its economic, social and development problems," the KING said.
