Seven killed and 30 wounded in two building collapse in southern Beirut

New statistics released in Beirut on Sunday said that victims of the two buildings collapse in al-Naema southern Beirut on Saturday tolled 7 dead and 30 wounded.

Lebanese security sources said that the process of lifting the remains and searching for the victims continue until today.

Details on this tragic incident said that two buildings out of a huge complex owned by Wafiq Mizher collapsed at 1.35 p.m. on Saturday at dawn. The two buildings are composed of 32 flats distributed on four flours.

Eye- witnesses from neighboring building said that at the moment of the collapse the ground shook under their houses and voices of the victims were heard.

The Lebanese President Emil Lahoud followed up developments on this tragic event and called on ministers concerned to move to the site of the collapse and to supervise the process of securing the victims.

President Lahoud also called on the judicial sides to make necessary investigations to know the reasons behind the collapse and to try those responsible for the collapse.

Similar efforts were also made by the Lebanese Premier Rafik al-Hariri to rescue the inhabitants of the two buildings.

However, Lebanese security sources said that the reason behind the collapse of the two buildings who are less than five year old was the bad building installations.
