Al-Doha OIC summit will be a middle solution
Regional, Politics, 11/13/2000

The BBC correspondent to the Islamic summit in Doha said that the statement which will be issued by the summit which started its works on Sunday will be a " middle solution " between cutting complete relations with Israel as called for by Syria and Iran and between practical considerations advocated by more moderate countries like Egypt and Jordan.

The correspondent indicated that the Muslim foreign ministers hope that the summit will conclude a statement that strongly condemns Israel and to be stronger that the statement issued by the recent Arab summit. She questioned whether the strong statement will include demanding countries which have relations with Israel to cut these relations.

The correspondent, on the other hand quoted several foreign ministers of the Muslin countries foreign ministers taking part in the summit as saying that the formula of the statement will not be at the same level of toughness, rather will constitute a call by countries concerned to cut their relations with Israel, like Egypt, Jordan and Turkey.

The correspondent also quoted Palestinian sources as saying that the summit will address several criticism for the US in its final statement and that the Muslim countries will sever relations with any country that will move its embassy to occupied Jerusalem.
