EU fishery ministers' council to assess talks with Morocco
Morocco-European Union, Economics, 11/11/2000

The European Union's fishery ministers' council will soon convene to assess results of discussions under way with Morocco, particularly the duration of a bilateral agreement, the council spokesman said.

In its Friday meeting next week, the council will look into the two-year period proposed by the Moroccan side, he said, adding the point needed further clarification.

He saw a discrepancy between the period and the Moroccan five-year development plan for fisheries termed cephalopod fishery reduction of 90 PC as "insufficient."

After the Rabat round this week, the European Commission saw talks as "constructive" saying "progress" has been made.

The two delegations will meet again November 21 in Brussels to carry on discussions.
