Syria-Qatar, Politics, 11/11/2000
The foreign minister Farouk al- Shara said that a decision was not taken over the participation of President Bashar al-Assad in the Islamic summit due to be held in Doha next Sunday.
This was expressed in a statement the minister made to the Saudi daily Okaz issued on Monday for its correspondent in Doha. The paper stated the minister's answer to a question on President al-Assad's participation in the summit saying " the decision was not taken yet, we are observing Qatar's stand concerning its relations with Israel."
The paper added that al-Shara asked during the close door meeting of the foreign ministers of the Islamic states to change the emblem of the summit he added " we have asked our Qatari brothers to change the emblem of the summit from " peace and development" to the al-Aqsa uprising because Israel has bombarded peace and they ( the Qataris) refused our proposal. But I preferred to declare this proposal in public so as there will be no way for refusal."
