Speaker of Algerian senate upbeat over reactivation of relations with Morocco
Algeria-Morocco, Politics, 11/10/2000
Speaker of the Algerian senate, Bachir Boumaza, voiced optimism over the reactivation of Algerian-Moroccan relations and said the edification of the Maghreb is a must in view of historical fatefulness.
This came in a statement by the senate after Boumaza met in Algiers Thursday Morocco's ambassador to Algiers, Mohamed Said Benrayane.
Boumaza voiced "optimism as to the reactivation of Algerian-Moroccan relations in a way fulfilling the aspirations and expectations of the two people," the statement said.
The senate speaker said the edification of the Maghreb is "a historical fatefulness, dictated by the common struggle and by the imperatives of the present."
The Moroccan ambassador also conferred the same day with Algerian minister of youth and sports, Abdelmalek Sellal, on the consolidation of cooperation in the field through exchanges programs covering cultural, scientific, sport and leisure activities.
The two sides also discussed the signing of an agreement on youth and sports.
Benrayane who was appointed as Morocco's ambassador to Algeria last September had earlier in the week met Algerian minister of small and medium-sized enterprises, Noureddine Boukrouh.
