Iraqi planes return back from Amman shortly

Just two days following Baghdad's determination to organize air flights to foreign capitals and to work for returning back the Iraqi planes outside the country, an official source at the Iraqi ministry of transport and communications said that the 6 planes of the Iraqi airlines which have been in existance in Jordan since ten years will be returned to Iraq very soon.
The Iraqi official weekly al- Zawraa quoted the source which was not identified that the six Iraqi planes which are existed in Jordan since 1991 will, return shortly to the Iraqi air fleet and will be used in transporting the Iraqi pilgrims during the current al-Haj season by the beginning of 2001 to Mecca.
On the other hand an Iraqi official said on Thursday that Iraq has officialy proposed for the UN to extend the current 8th phase of the oil-for-food agreement until January 15th. He explained that his country has not yet received a reply to its request, and that the current phase of the oil-for-food agreement expires on the fifth of December.
Meantime, and in the course of the growing international support to lift the sanctions imposed on Iraq, the Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia backs immediate lift for the sanctions imposed on Iraq and its return back to normal life.
Putin said upon receiving the credentials of several foreign ambassadors accredited to federal Russia that this Russian position receives supporters at the UN. He noted that firm relations have been established between Russia and Iraq.
On the other hand, a group representing high ranking Greek figures on Thursday announced their determination to carry out an air flight to Baghdad in protest to the UN sanctions imposed on Iraq.
In a statement, the group said the visit will last for three days and is to express solidarity with the Iraqi people who suffer the severe sanctions. This Greek group contains members of parliament, actors, journalists and non- governmental organizations.
