Israeli court extends detention of a Syrian citizen
Syria-Israel, Politics, 11/10/2000

The Israeli court in Safad on Wednesday extended for one week the detention of the Syrian citizen Kamal Zeidan ( 30 year old) who sneaked into Israel on Monday at dawn.

The Israeli radio on Wednesday said that Zeidan said when he was brought before the Israeli investigation court that he " had sneaked to Israel through the borders to help the Palestinians in their struggle."

Zeidan added he had earlier sneaked to Israel in 1994 where he was arrested after he was held in prison for several months.

The radio indicated that the state of alert was declared in various Israeli settlements situated on the northern borders following the detention of Zeidan after he was chased and fired upon.

The radio added the court will continue investigations with Zeidan to make sure which side sent him and what organization he works for.
