Jordan's elections and the Muslim brothers
Jordan, Politics, 11/9/2000
The observers general of the Muslim brothers group in Jordan Abdul Majid al-Zuneibat said that the Islamists have not yet defined their position towards taking part in the coming parliamentary elections which will be held next year. He explained that this position will become clear only in light of what will take place regarding the elections law, adding that in light of these results the Islamists will decide their position.
He added in press statements in Amman on Wednesday that the Islamists will not participate in the elections if the "One voice principle" will be kept in the elections law. But al-Zuneibat reasserted that so far no decision was taken on taking part in the coming elections.
Worthy mentioning that the Muslim brothers boycott the parliamentary elections in Jordan since 1997 in protest of the " one voice principle " in the elections law.
