Britain says Iraq as threat to region
Iraq-UK, Politics, 11/9/2000

British defense secretary Geoffrey Hoon said that Iran does not constitute a threat to its Arab Gulf neighbors, but Iraq might attack Kuwait once again if the West will not impose " no fly " zones on the northern and Southern parts of Iraq.

Hoon told journalists in conclusion of his visit to Oman on Tuesday that at a time when Iran started to open to the outer world, Iraq still constitutes a tangible danger to the region because it is not committed itself to the UN resolutions, adding " therefore we have to continue the air embargo on Iraq to prevent the Iraqi president from damaging his people and attacking Kuwait, once again."

Meantie, SANA reported said that the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan will hold talks with the Iraqi officials during the summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference OIC due to be held in Doha on November 12 to end the problem of returning back the UN weapons inspectors to Iraq after two- years of absence.

Annan's statements were made before he left the UN to Europe on his way to Doha to attend this summit.
