First Lady Mubarak stresses keenness on health services to children

Head of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, First Lady Suzanne Mubarak underlined that the state, the private sector and all the civil society groups should cooperate in order to promote social development.
In Sunday's first forum of the Council attended by representatives of 80 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOS), Mrs. Mubarak said the main concern is to bring up a physically fit child who can to enjoy his civil, health and legislative rights.
"The state's interest is quite evident in the establishment' of the council in 1988 to be a Supreme Authority to propose policies in that domain," said Mrs. Mubarak.
She added that Egypt is one of the pioneering countries to ratify the international agreement for child rights.
Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak reviewed achievements accomplished during the first decade of the Egyptian child in the fields of health, education, culture and social care.
"President Hosni Mubarak launched the Egyptian child decade for the protection and care of Egyptian children and paying more attention to those marginalized, especially in the fields of education, health, social and cultural development and legislation",she said.
"In his speech before the national conference for social development,President Mubarak gave directions to boost social organizations operating in the field of care for women, children and family," said Egypt's first lady.
"Mubarak urged that elimination of illiteracy be accomplished during the coming five years," said Mrs. Mubarak.
She added that the President demanded programmes to promote birth control.
Addressing the forum, the First Lady called for setting up a directory for NGOS to be updated regularly and a constant evaluation of their activities.
"The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood is keen on an active participation of NGOs in promoting child and motherhood care in Egypt," said Mrs. Mubarak.
She called for setting up a network of NGOs operating in that domain to exchange technical expertise and coordinate services.
She also called for setting up two permanent committees comprising experts in the field of legislation, procedures, data and information to determine how far citizens make use of the services offered.
At the end of her speech, Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak lauded the children who had taken part in the Palestinian Intifada.
She also paid homage to the martyrs of the uprising who had sacrificed their lives in defence of their legitimate rights.
Mrs. Mubarak launched an open dialogue for the exchange of viewpoints over means to boost cooperation between NGOs and the council.
