Remarkable changes expected in Sudan
Sudan-Ethiopia, Politics, 11/7/2000
The advisor for the Sudanese Presidency for peace affairs Ahmad Ibrahim al-Taher has revealed a comprehensive change that will target the state's executive systems following the coming presidential and parliamentary elections.
In statements issued on Monday in Khartoum, al-Taher added that the constitutional changes will avail the elected President to make necessary consultations and to choose his two deputies and the occupants of the executive and constitutional posts.
On the other hand, al-Taher stressed the consent of the government and the rebel movement led by John Garang to attend the meeting called for by the secretariat of the IGAD's states to discuss the partition of " the authority and the wealth" due to be held on November 14 in Nairobi.
He added that the two sides will take part in another meeting to be held in Addis Ababa by the end of the current month to discuss special issues relating to religion and the state and the division of " the authority and the wealth in the country" besides the issue of decentralization.
Al-Taher said that these two meetings constitute a substantial move in the course of issues of disagreement between the Sudanese government and the opposition especially the rebellion movement.
