Jordanian bankers stop dealing with the Shekel

Jordanian bankers stopped dealing with the Israeli Shekel. Their decision was in response to the decision issued by the bankers society in the country, in solidarity with the Palestinian people in the occupied lands.

A statement issued by the bankers association in Amman on Monday said that this decision comes in solidarity with the Palestinian uprising and in denunciation to the massacres committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, stressing backing of the Jordanian bankers with this decision.

Meantime, the Jordanian daily al-Dostour quoted the chairman of the Jordanian bankers Mutiis al-Kabareiti as saying that the Jordanian banking companies have greatly responded with a decision taken to this effect by the society.

A spokesman for the society explained that the number of banking companies officially registered in Jordan is estimated at 67.

Al-Kabareiti explained that the volume of dealing with the Israeli Shekel in the country does not exceed 12 million Shekel per month, estimated at US $ 3 million, basically brought by the Palestinians of 1948 and the tourists coming from Jordan to Israel.

This figure represents 2.5 per one thousand of the volume of the use of the Shekel in Jordan, estimated at US $ one billion per year.
