Maghreban political organizations condemn Israeli aggression
Tunisia-Palestine, Politics, 11/3/2000

Political organizations in the Arab Maghreb, which held their ordinary session in Tunis, condemned Thursday the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

A statement by the secretariat of the general conference of the parties said they lauded the Palestinians' uprising and sacrifices to defend their lands and sacred places. They renewed support of the Arab Maghreb region with the Palestinian people in their struggle to liberate their lands from the Israeli occupation, the return of the Palestinian refugees and the declaration of the Palestinian state with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.

The statement called on the United Nations Organization to give up its double-standard policy and force Israel to stop its reckless policies in order to protect the unarmed Palestinians.

Secretary general of Tunisia's ruling Constitutional Democratic Rally (RCD) said it is necessary that the Maghreban sectoral commissions meet before end of this year and announced that Libya is ready to host the economic commission meeting.

He added that the meeting also examined a set of measures to revive the Arab Maghreb Union action, mainly through the creation within each political party of a committee in charge of Maghreban affairs and consolidation of the Maghreban identity among the youth by using the new information technologies.

The Arab Maghreb Union, mastering Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia will mark next February 17 its twelfth anniversary.
