Al-Hariri: Syrian presence needed for stability in Lebanon

Lebanese President Emi Lahoud has stressed that Israel's continued violations into the Lebanese territories threatens stability in South Lebanon and would result in further consequences that Israel alone is responsible for.
President Lahoud asked the Lebanese foreign ministry to informs Lebanon's permanent representative at the UN to make necessary contacts to prepare a report to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan including the flagrant Israeli violations of UN resolutions on the international borders as well as Israel's warplanes continued flights and breaking of sound barriers over the Lebanese areas especially over the capital Beirut.
On the other hand, in its general session chaired by its speaker Nabih Berri, the Lebanese parliament on Thursday discussed the government's ministerial statement, in the presence of the prime minister Rafik al-Haririr and the Cabinet ministers.
The ministerial statement which was read by al-Hariri stressed that the current phase will be a phase of actual translation of the principle of the unity of unity and track linking Syria and Lebanon in the framework of the independence and sovereignty of each country, adding that the presence of the Syrian army on the Lebanese territories is necessary, legitimate and temporary, necessitated by strategic needs agreed upon by the two countries according to developments.
The statement explained that the government stresses its commitment to the fraternal, coordination and coordination treaty between Syria and Lebanon. A treaty which will the government gives special and continued interest that will be at the volume of the remarkable relations and the joint ambitions of the two peoples, availing economic relations to be up to the volume of political relations between the two countries, because these relations surpass the bounderies of liberation ( of south lebanon) to furnish for a joint future between the two countries The statement stressed that " the government today starts today on the ground of the most important national achievements in the history of Lebanon. It is the victory of the resistance of all Lebanese against the Israeli aggressions and occupation and forcing the enemy to withdraw and to admit defeat."
The statement considered that one of the most important objectives of the government is to preserve the achievement of resistance and to work for investing this achievement in all fields.
The statement also stressed work for attaining a just and comprehensive peace based on completing the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories, liberating the Golan and restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinians, according to UN resolutions.
After the government's statement was read, parliamentary discussions started. They will continue until Saturday when the parliament members will vote for the new government.
