Cooperation with EU to cover all fishery activities
Morocco-European Union, Economics, 11/2/2000
Cooperation with the European Union will cover all fishery activities but not to the expenses of fish resources, said fishery minister Said Chbaatou Wednesday.
The minister told RTM the kingdom proposal to Brussels was "global" and meant to preserve natural resources and promote the sector. It targets balanced cooperation that would preserve jobs and secure social promotion, he added.
Compensation must be an adequate financial cooperation to help build landing facilities, processing units and better social coverage of fishermen, especially in traditional fisheries, the minister pointed out.
Moroccan-EU fishery talks adjourned Tuesday in Brussels will resume November 8 with weekly meetings to continue till an agreement is finalized.
