Iraq, India hold joint commission meeting
Iraq-India, Economics, 10/28/2000
Iraqi Vice President Yacine Taha Ramadan, whose visit to India earlier this month was postponed because of "certain circumstances," will now come here soon after a meeting of the Indo-Iraqi Joint Commission to be held before the end of November, the Press Trust of India reported, quoting an Indian Foreign Office spokesman.
This was finalised by a Foreign Office delegation, which visited Baghdad earlier this week.
The spokesman said Ramadan will visit India immediately after the Joint Commission meeting.
The Indian officials also held talks with their Iraqi counterparts on bilateral, regional and international issues. New Delhi had earlier termed as "completely without foundation" a press report seeking to link rescheduling of a visit of Ramadan to India with reported remarks of Junior Minister for External Affairs, Ajit Panja on lifting of embargo against Baghdad.
"Rescheduling of the visit of the Vice President of Iraq to India and linking it to alleged comments by the Junior Minister is completely fanciful," the Foreign office spokesman had then said.
The spokesman had said that reported remarks of Panja were "wrongly attributed" to him.
