Restoring the historical sites related to the the prophet's kins
Egypt, History, 10/27/2000
Next November will witness the beginning of a new project to restore historical sites related to the Prophet's kins. The project will be shared by the Ministry of Tourism, Cairo Governorate, and Cairo University teaching staff. This project follows the first phase of restoring historical sites related to the Holy Family. Thus, the religious tolerance of the Egyptian people is highlighted.
Mamdouh El-Beltagi, Minister of Tourism, stated that the new project aims at restoring the architectural treasures of the Islamic civilization in Egypt. It is also meant to promote religious tourism and reactivate the nation's memory.
Through this project, the standard of living of the residents of these sites will rise due to the flourish of tourist activities following this restoration process. The project rests on four axes: reinforcing infrastructure, promoting environmental conditions, restoring and decorating the architectural fabric surrounding Islamic monuments and reviving the folkloric traditions of these ancient public quarters.
Al-Beltagi added that the project aims at achieving integrated development and encouraging international tourism to the historical sites related to the Prophet's kins. The starting-point of this project is the Mosques of Sayda Zeinab, Sayda Nafissa, Sayda Aisha, Sayda Ruqaya and Sayda Seekina. All these mosques reveal how the Egyptian people holds the Prophet's kins in high esteem.
Al-Beltagi mentioned also that we will exert intensive efforts to raise the residents' awareness of the architectural, aesthetic, cultural and human importance of these monuments. Thus, the tourist visits to these sites will be welcomed by them as in addition, they will provide them with a method of social and economic development whereby there will be an increase in income and job opportunities.
The minister also asserted that his ministry's adoption of such projects stems from its keenness on realizing an environmental renaissance to boost the development of tourism in public quarters. Consequently, there will be an increase in the national income and the revenues of the state treasury. Such a tourist development will lead to a comprehensive prosperity on all levels benefiting the residents and the whole society alike.
The minister closed his remarks with hailing the role of the Society of Reviving National Egyptian Heritage which comprises a group of Muslim and Christian thinkers and businessmen who takes part voluntarily in funding such projects.
