No Middle East peace without Jerusalem
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 10/26/2000
"Egypt voiced astonishment over the voting by some European countries, members of the Geneva-based on human rights commission, against a resolution adopted by the Arab and Islamic group strongly condemning Israel for committing war crimes," said an Egyptian official.
Assistant Foreign Minister for International Multilateral Affairs Suliman Awad told ambassadors of some European and other countries that Egypt looks forward to more support for Arab causes and the Middle East peace process.
"Egypt is determined to implement resolutions of this week's emergency Arab summit," said Awad.
During their summit, the first in more than four years, Arab leaders held Israel responsible for renewed tension in the region and froze regional economic cooperation with the Jewish state.
Awad reiterated that just, comprehensive and permanent peace can never be achieved unless Jerusalem is restored.
He warned against the repercussions of "provocative" Israeli acts on regional peace process
