Seven Islamists win in the Egyptian elections

Tens of independent candidates who won the first stage of the parliamentary elections which ended on Tuesday, have joined the lines of the ruling Democratic National Party in Egypt so as to keep its control so far on the Egyptian People's Assembly ( parliament).

The results read by the Egyptian ministry of the interior on Wednesday said that this party which is led by the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak won only 59 seats out of 150 which were under competition in the first stage of the elections out of a total 454 seats the parliament.

Some 59 persons won the elections as independents and they have chosen to join the party which has become of a comfortable majority of 118 seats. After joining, the seats are distributed as follows:the democratic national party 118 seats ( 59 of its own candidates and 59 of independents who joined it), some 15 independent parliamentarians of no declared political affiliation, some 7 Islamists including 6 of the " Muslim brothers group" and the independent Islamic lawyer Adel Ayed who was elected in Alexandria, four parliamentarians split from the Naserite party, three parliamentarians for the coalition party, one parliamentarian for al-Wafd party.

Among the seven Islamists two who were elected in the first session and 5 in the second session of the first stage in the elections which were held on Tuesday. The winners are Akram al-Shaer in Bort Saeed (Suez canal area), Jamal Hasmat in al-Buheira area (North Delta), Muhammad Mustafa in Alexandria, Mustafa Awadullah in al-Fayoum area ( 100 km to the south of Cairo) all these belong to the " Muslim brothers."

Lawyer Adel Ayed who was elected in Alexandria is an Islamist but he is not member in the group.

However, the parliamentary elections in Egypt are being held for the first time under the supervision of the Judiciary and in three stages, with every stage covering one thirst of the election.

Complete results will be announced in the mid of November.
