Iraq, Politics, 10/24/2000

Baghdad and several other Iraqi cities have witnessed demonstrations of protest against the resolutions of the urgent Arab summit which concluded its works in Cairo on Sunday.

Eye-witnesses said that more than 10,000 persons were in massive demonstrations in al-Azameyah area to the northern West of Baghdad raising banners condemning the summit's final statement.

In Saddam's city to the east of Baghdad, some 8,000 persons demonstrated carrying banners refusing the resolutions of the summit and considered them as a " sign of shame on the faces of traitorous Arab leaders."

In al-Alaweyah area some 10,000 demonstrators condemned the resolutions of the Arab summit.

An Iraq source said that the demonstrations of protest will prevail all Iraqi cities on Monday and Tuesday to express total rejection for the policy of bargaining and non- confrontation adopted by certain Arab leaders and condemning the decisions of the urgent summit.
