Aideed refuses to negotiate with new Somali President
Somalia, Politics, 10/23/2000
Somali war leader Hussein Muhammad Aided announced on Sunday that his party and some of his allies would not negotiate with the government of the new President Abdul Qasem Salat hassan.
In a press statement Aideed claimed that Salat did not honor the agreement signed in Libya in September. The agreement stated the need to consult other parties and political leaders before he assumed presidency and formed the new government.
On the other hand, the spokesman for the government Idris Hassan Derya stressed on Sunday that weapons and military vehicles arrived from Yemen, noting that these military weapons will be used by the new security forces in the Somali capital and not for fighting other Somali groups.
