Arab summit to lead to decisions meeting Arab masses expectations, moroccan FM
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 10/21/2000

The emergency Arab summit, held this week end in Cairo, will lead to decisions meeting the aspirations of Arab masses who are pinning great hopes on the encounter, said Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa.

The head of the Moroccan diplomacy who was interviewed by the Moroccan TV channel "TVM" was of the opinion that Arab solidarity will know a new turning point marked by a new vision in view of the difficult circumstances experienced by the Arab world.

The hard times experienced by the Arab nation and the Palestinian cause and the worsening of the Arab-Israeli conflict require that Arab states take decisions matching the events, he added.

To a question on Arab states' efforts to reach peace at a time Israel is brandishing the threat of war, Benaissa said Arabs need first of all to evaluate their power and means on the ground and their capacity to resist.

Peace in the Middle East is not a regional issue but a matter where several world powers and great interests are involved, he said insisting that Israeli premier was "irresponsible and hasty" when he said Israel is ready to declare war not only on Palestine but on all Arab countries.
