New negotiations between Morocco and Europe on fishery
Morocco-European Union, Economics, 10/19/2000
Morocco and the E.U resumed the maritime fishery negotiations and held talks headed by Moroccan prime minister Abd El-Rahman El-Yusefi and the European delegate for agriculture and fishery Franz Fisher in the second meeting of its kind after the one held on the last September the 28th in Brussel.
The meeting was to listen to the European answer on the proposals raised in Rabat and it comprised Morocco's work plan for the coming five years in the maritime fishery field to make this field a sector for exports development and to provide nearly a million work opportunities in addition to protecting the maritime assets which were badly affected by the excessive European fishing.
European sources said that Brussel wants to reach a compromise formula that guarantees in the same time the interests of Morocco and of the Spanish fleet in the regional water in return for European support for the local development program like establishing new harbors for the coastal fishery, developing funds for maintenance and training workers.
