On President Bashar al-Assad's concluded visits to Saudi Arabia, Jordan

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday concluded two visits to each of Saudi Arabia and Jordan during which he met in al-Riyadh with the US secretary of state Madeleine Albright who called on him to " contain Hizbullah provocative acts " against Israel. President al-Assad replied that the Hizbullah party is " a social force in itself."

In his two-day visit to al-Riyadh the Syrian President held talks with the Saudi King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz and the crown prince Abdullah dealt with " forming a strong Arab front." Then President al-Assad moved to Amman where he held with the Jordanian King talks dealt with current conditions in the Palestinians territories just two days before convening the Arab summit in Cairo.

An official close to the talks said that the meeting between al-Assad and Albright in al-Riyadh was the " first serious talks" for a US official with al-Assad since he assumed power and the close door meeting started for 50 minutes before it was joined by the foreign minister al-Shara and the US ME peace process coordinator for one and a half hours.

In Amman, the Syrian President and the Jordanian King underlined the importance of taking a united Arab position towards the incidents in the Palestinian territories during the summit to be held in Cairo.

The Jordanian News Agency Petra said that the two leaders agreed during their talks to " continue consultation and coordination for providing this summit a success to conclude positive results and a united Arab stand concerning events took place in the Palestinian territories and backing Arab issues." For his part, the Jordanian King stressed Jordan's stand in backing Syria in its just demands to maintain "Israel's withdrawal from all occupied Syrian territories until June 4, 1967 border lines as a basic precondition to achieve peace."

He two leaders also expressed " satisfaction over the advanced level" relations between Damascus and Amman have reached.

A Syrian source accompanied President Bashar in his visit to Saudi Arabia said that " President al-Assad's talks in al-Riyadh was " successful by all means as the Saudi leaders have asserted their backing and support to Syria in until the liberation of the occupied lands up to June 4, 1967 border lines."
