Kuwait to simplify procedures for endorsing Indonesian certificates of origin
Kuwait-Indonesia, Economics, 10/17/2000
Kuwait will soon simplify its procedures for endorsing certificates of origin for Indonesian exports, reports this Tuesday Indonesian news agency "ANTARA."
Chairman of Indonesia's agency for export development), Gusmardi Bustami, said "kuwait has agreed and promised to simplify the procedures after studying them,." He added Indonesian exporters who wish to export goods to the middle east must first have their certificates of origin endorsed by the justice ministry, the Egyptian embassy in Jakarta, the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), the middle east chamber of commerce and industry, and the foreign affairs ministry.
This is burdensome and expensive for exporters, he said.
Consequently, many Indonesian exporters are reluctant to export goods to the middle east, he said adding he would also lobby the governments of Jordan, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Lebanon to follow Kuwait's example.
According to ANTARA, Egypt had also streamlined its procedures for endorsing certificates of origin for Indonesian exports, enabling Indonesian companies to export goods to Egypt without having their certificates of origin endorsed by the foreign affairs ministry, the OIC and the middle east chamber of commerce and industry, he said.
