Kuwaiti request to limit Arab summit discussion to Jerusalem and Palestine
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 10/17/2000

Kuwait on Monday expressed its hope that the Arab summit which will be held on October 21 and 22 will be dedicated to discuss the question of Jerusalem and the situation in the Palestinian territories.

The first deputy for the Kuwaiti premier and the foreign minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah told the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am that his country sees that the " Arab summit should discuss the issue of Jerusalem and recent developments in the Middle East region and no other item should be added to the agenda."

He added " the summit's agenda should be limited to events in the Middle East and to what the Palestinians have been exposed to," stressing that the summit will be held for that purpose. The statements made by the Kuwaiti official came following news on the possibility of discussing means of alleviating sanctions imposed on Iraq since August 1990.
