Al Qarawiyin university revival, a fact says minister
Morocco, Religion, 10/16/2000

The revival of scientific syllabi of the renowned Al Qarawiyin University has become a fact today with the graduation of this year's batch of alumni bearing "Ulema" diploma, says minister of habus and Islamic affairs Abdelkebir Alaoui M'Daghri.

In the graduation ceremony last week on the campus, the minister said the institution has recovered its traditional scientific role in resuming the training of scholars at the initiative of the late king Hassan II.

The department, he said, has resumed traditional education from the Quranic school to graduate studies crowned by the "ulema" degree in perfect harmony with public education supervised by the national education ministry.

The graduation ceremony of laureates who spent twelve years at the university included a lecture by the 2000 class on "The call of Islam to science and knowledge."
