Moussa, Annan held press conference on Sharm el-Seikh meeting
Egypt, Politics, 10/16/2000

Egypt's foreign minister Amr Moussa has stressed that the aim of Sharm al-Sheikh meeting, if it will be convened, is to withdraw the Israeli occupation forces from the Palestinian territories and halting the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

In a press conference he held with the UN secretary general Kofi Annan, following their discussions in Sharm al Sheikh on Sunday, Moussa described the situation as very dangerous and held Israel fully responsible for exploding condition in the occupied lands..

On the demonstrations taking place in Egypt opposing the Sharm el Sheikh meeting, Moussa said that the Egyptian and Arab public is very angry of the Israeli aggressive practices and the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people.

He added " all of us as official Arabs are angry because of the Israeli killing and destruction acts which are considered flagrant violations to all humanitarian laws and charters and the international legitimacy resolutions."

For his part Annan expressed his hope that this meeting of Sharm el-Sheikh will succeed in halting acts of violence, containing the position and returning back to the table of negotiations.

He warned against the tense and explosive situation in the occupied Arab lands, a situation which threatens the whole region and the world. He added that demonstrations reached as far as Indonesia. A matter which threatens the world economy as oil prices reached their highest level in ten years.
