Ministers call for exhaust pipes pollution control
Morocco, Environment, 10/14/2000
City planning, housing and environment minister Mohamed El Yazghi called for the enforcement of control on exhaust-pipes pollution.
Opening an information day Friday in Rabat, commemorating the Arab environment day, the minister called for progressive enforcement of a government decree to limit car-pollution. Voluntary check-ups will be offered in Rabat by the department and the environment strategic defense group before expanding the move to other cities of the kingdom affected by heavy road-traffic, he announced.
Transport and merchant-navy minister Abdeslam Znined said pollution by cars and trucks, whose number is on the increase, is to blame for several diseases, mainly respiratory ones. He pointed out his department provides check-up centers and has increased vehicle-technical control especially for public transportation buses.
