International telecom body chief in Morocco

Yoshio Utsumu, secretary general of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) will visit Morocco October 17-20. The visit is part of the preparations for the ITI plenipotentiaries conference, to be held in 2002 in Marrakesh.
During his stay in Morocco, Utsumu will confer with Moroccan officials and professionals on means to upgrade cooperation ties between Morocco and ITU.
Morocco will be the first Arab country and the second African nation to host ITU conference. Kenya hosted the encounter in 1982.
