Kharazi arrives by air to Baghdad

Iran's foreign minister Kamal Kharazi arrived on Friday in Baghdad on board of an Iranian airline plane in a first visit carried out by Iranian foreign minister to Iraq since ten years.
Iraq's foreign minister Muhammad al-Sahaf and several Iraqi officials welcomed Kharazi upon his arrival at Baghdad's international airport.
In arrival statements to the press Kharazi said that his talks in Iraq will deal with all pending issues between the two countries. He expressed his hope that this visit will conclude concrete and positive results.
Al-Sahaf on the other hand said this visit is very important as part of continued work and the political will to settle all problems between Iraq and Iran and to positively start building good relations between the two countries.
The meeting between Kharazi and al-Sahaf is the first one which is held in Baghdad after they had met in New York on September 20.
Earlier in the day, the Iranian radio said that Kharazi will discuss with his Iraqi counterpart Muhammad al-Sahaf pending relations between the two countries. the radio added that bilateral relations will be also discussed with other Iraqi officials.
Arab diplomatic sources said the two sides will also discuss the tense situation in the region.
On Thursday an Iraqi source explained that Kharazi' s visit will continue until next Sunday.
Meantime, well-informed sources in Baghdad said that the Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi will ask the Iraqi officials to open the Iraqi airspace before the Iranian civilian planes to cross for the Syrian capital Damascus. The London- based al-Hayat daily today quoted the sources as saying that Iraq will ask for granting it an air passage through Iran for its plane to head for Moscow.
