Iraq-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 10/14/2000
Iraq has called on the secretary general of the Arab League Ismat Abdul Maguid "to interfere with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to stop allowing the use of their airspace to commit the aggression against Iraq by the US and British warplanes."
In a message published on Friday by the Iraqi news agency, the Iraqi foreign minister Muhammad Saeed al-Sahaf called on the Arab League to ask the officials in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to stop flying of the US and British warplanes from its territories or to pass through their airspace for committing attacks against Iraq.
Al- Sahaf added that the American and British planes carried out during the period from September 19 through 30 some 375 armed sorties from the Saudi airspace and some 98 air sorties from the Kuwaiti airspace.
Iraq stressed Iraq's its full right, according to the international law, to defend itself, sovereignty, and security and demanding these countries to compensate for the human and material losses inflected on it as a result of these aggressions.
