Syria: Demonstrations for the 9th day in Damascus
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 10/13/2000
Demonstrations supporting the Palestinians were organized yesterday for the 9th successive day during which U.S and Israeli flags were burnt.
Thousands of demonstrators walked the main streets in Damascus before heading to the U.S embassy as the police closed the near streets and banned them from getting closer.
Employees from most of the ministries and the country's departments, students, artists and intellectuals participated in the demonstration that was urged by the Baath ruling party.
The demonstrators shouted "No fear - no fear, the stones become Klashnikov (automatic gun), there is not God but Allah, and the martyr is God's beloved."
