Al-Assad discuss tense situation with Kharazi, Ivanov

In two separate meetings President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday received the Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi and the Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov.
During the two meetings talks dealt with the general situation in the region in light of the Israeli escalation. The president stressed that self-defense against foreign occupation is the right of every people. A right guaranteed by all international law and that Shebaa farms are Lebanese territories and it is the right of the Lebanese people to struggle for liberating them.
For his part, the Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi voiced total backing to Syria in her steadfast stand in defending Arab and Muslim rights. He condemned Israel's aggressiveness and held it responsible for current escalations. Ivanov, for his part announced that Russia continues its consultation with all sides concerned in the region, adding it is premature to talk about a solution for the crisis and that intensive efforts and contacts have been all made to bring back matters to conditions prevailing before September 28.
President Bashar al-Assad received at al-Shaab palace the Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi. The meeting was attended by foreign minister Farouk al-Shara and the Iranian ambassador in Damascus.
Kharazi conveyed to al-Assad a message from the Iranian President Muhammad Khatami on the grave developments in the region and stressed Iran's backing to Syria and Lebanon.
Talks dealt with the general conditions, security and stability in the region following the grave escalation made by israel.
View points were identical in backing the question of the Palestinian people and backing their struggle and to denouncing the Israeli threats.
In his meeting with Ivanov, President al-Assad listened to explanations from the Russian minister on the efforts he made during his current tour in the region.
Talks dealt with current conditions in the region and means of alleviating the escalated tension as a result of the Israeli provocation.
President al-Assad asked Ivanov to convey Syria's clear stand concerning conditions in the region to the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On Wednesday afternoon. Al-Shara met with Kharazi and the two ministers discussed current developments in the region under Israel's continued policy of oppressions against the Palestinian Arab people in the occupied Arab lands and the escalation of tension in the region, especially in South Lebanon.
The two ministers condemned Israel's aggressive policy and held it responsible for violating all international and humanitarian laws and charters.
Kharazi, on the other hand stressed his country's backing to Syria in her steadfast stand in defense of Arab and Muslim rights.
In a statement to the press following his meeting with al-Shara, Kharazi said "we have discussed important developments taking place in the region," adding " the Palestinians people and the peoples of the region have realized their tremendous power and there are no fears in the region from Israel."
He renewed his country's stand in backing Syria, Lebanon and Palestine, adding " my visit is being made to declare this Iranian stand."
