Diplomatic moves to stop Israeli violence against Palestinians
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 10/11/2000
In exclusive statements to "Al-Ahram daily", Osama El-baz, Political Advisor of the Egyptian President, asserted that the political orientation of the Arab summit will be the Palestinian issue and the developments in the occupied territories.
He added that the situation is very critical and represents the main concern of the Arab nation.
Other items, however, could be added to the agenda.
On the possibility that side-differences may impact the success of the summit, Baz termed these words as inaccurate, and said that it is natural to have diverse opinions, and all of them would be discussed in the summit, asserting that the Arab leaders can attain a compromise in respect of the main issue, namely the Palestinian issue.
Regarding the significance of the recent US moves, and the rumors that their aim is to abort the Palestinian resistance, Baz asserted that Egypt cannot take part in any action aiming at the aborting of Palestinian resistance, rather we are exerting all our efforts to defend Palestinian people and interests.
We are trying to stop Israeli aggression and violation of Palestinian rights.
On Barak's ultimatum to the Palestinians and fixing a time limit to stop violence, Baz said "that such ultimatum is a mere agitation, and a clear Israeli attempt to get out of the present dilemma, as they are quite aware of the various dimensions of the crisis.
