Morocco, Politics, 10/11/2000

United Nations funds, agencies, and programs, represented in Morocco, have met in the Moroccan northern city of Tangiers to jointly develop the 2nd UN plan of assistance to development.

A statement of the UN information center says the 2nd UN plan will be drawn according to new national priorities in Morocco as listed in the 2000-2004 economic and social development plan.

The meeting, chaired by Bouna Semou Diouf -UN system resident coordinator in Morocco and UNDP representative in Morocco, brought together delegates of the UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO, FAO, WFP, UNESCO and the World Bank.

At the opening session, a delegate of the planning and economy forecasts ministry expounded priorities set by Morocco in its economic and social development plan for the period between 2000-2004.

The initiative means to help the government and various UN bodies develop a single document reflecting all the United Nations assistance to development programs. It also seeks to maximize the efficiency of cooperation between Morocco and the world body on the basis of jointly-agreed upon goals.
