Russia seeks to mediate between Hezbollah and Israel to release captured soldiers
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 10/10/2000

Russia informed the Lebanese Hezbollah its desire to play the intermediary role in exchanging the Israeli soldiers captured recently by Hezbollah with Lebanese detainees held in the Israeli prisons during the visit paid by the Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov to Beirut , yet no formal declaration was issued concerning this matter.

Lebanese sources assured that the U.N and U.S.A asked Lebanon to accelerate handing over the captives and that the Lebanese army completely controls south Lebanon and the borders with Israel.

Mohammed Fineesh, the delegate of Hezbollah in the Lebanese parliament said "there are communications from the intermediaries and the international organizations as well as from envoys from some countries and I am surprised to these intensive communications in the time in which we did not notice the concern when we urged the International community on the necessity to stress on the Zionist entity to release the kidnapped (Lebanese), hostages and the detainees."

He added "we did not notice this concern for the screams of the Lebanese detainees' children yet these communications are an attempt to find a kind of understanding to release the (Israeli) three soldiers."
