Lahoud confers with UN special envoy

Lebanese President Emil Lahoud on Monday at Baabda presidential palace received the personal envoy for the UN secretary general to Lebanon. Talks dealt with the escalation in South Lebanon in kafer Shouba and in southern Lebanese areas. The envoy described the meeting as good.

Replying to a question concerning the issue of the Israeli prisoners who were kidnapped by the Hizbullah party, the envoy said that this issue was discussed but there were no details.

Furthermore the Lebanese President informed the UN secretary general envoy Lebanon's protest over Israel's bombardment of the secure Lebanese villages along the Lebanese borders and the wounding of citizens, the Israeli planes' violation of the Lebanese airspace and its aggressions against unarmed Lebanese and Palestinian civilians.

During his meeting with the envoy, the Lebanese president added that these Israeli aggressions constitute a flagrant violations to the Lebanese sovereignty and to the UN security council resolution 425.

The Lebanese president learnt from the envoy about the efforts carried out by the UN to deal with conditions erupted in south Lebanon following the recent developments so as to brief the UN secretary general Kofi Annan on them upon his arrival in the region.

President Lahoud stressed Lebanon's backing to the move carried out by the UN to this effect.
