Thousands of Moroccan march in solidarity with Palestine
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 10/9/2000

Hundreds of thousands of Moroccans marched Sunday morning in downtown Rabat in a large demonstration to show support to the helpless Palestinian people, currently prey to the Israeli war machine.

The march brought together all Moroccan political trends, who came to express the anger of the Moroccan people over the inhuman attacks perpetrated against Palestinians.

"We will give our blood for you, Palestine," shouted the demonstrators, topped by leaders of Moroccan political parties, including Abderrahmane Youssoufi, Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces.

The holy city of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) was present in the heart of the demonstration. "No peace nor capitulation, Al-Quds should be liberated," chanted the demonstrators, who also decried the silence of Arabs.

The memory of Mohamed Addourra, the Palestinian child killed by the Israeli soldiers in his father's arms, was omnipresent among the Moroccan demonstrated, who waved a huge banderole, bearing Mohammed Addourra's picture with that of the Al-Aqsa Mosque -symbol of resistance and of the Muslim identity of Al-Quds.

"It's a barbarous act. Arabs should avenge Mohammed Addourra," said a 70-year-old demonstrator.

In Casablanca, the Justice and Development party (PJD) cancelled a demonstration it was planning to hold Sunday in Casablanca. The party said in a release it cancelled to demonstration because it was not authorized by the authorities.
