King Mohammed, Jerusalem committee chairman, castigates massacre of innocent children by Israel
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 10/6/2000
Morocco's King Mohammed VI castigated on Thursday, in his capacity as chairman of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Committee, the massacre of innocent children by the Israeli forces.
"In the face of the barbarism perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces against unarmed Palestinian civilians, we fervently decry the use of different means to massacre innocent children gathered to denounce the provocative act which harmed their beliefs and feelings as well as those of all the Muslims," said the Committee in a release read out by Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation minister, Mohamed Benaissa.
The Al-Quds Committee, chaired by King Mohammed VI, is an off-shoot of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, striving for the defense of the Arab and Islamic identity of Al-Quds.
King Mohammed VI, who prayed for the rest of the souls of all martyrs, expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to their families and to the resistant people of Palestine.
The king urged all the powers to urgently intervene to put an end to the massacres against the unarmed and defenseless Palestinian people, terming the Israeli aggression as a "shame for all humanity."
"We also call the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to defend the Palestinian people, who aspire to take their place within the concert of nations and to enjoy their legitimate rights," the release said, adding "we have repeatedly drew attention to the dangers of interrupting the peace process and the consequences of such an interruption that would plunge the region in a spiral of violence and in the unknown."
The events currently taking place in the Palestinian territory are evidence that the calls for a fair and comprehensive peace were not heeded with the necessary earnestness and responsibility, the release stressed, recalling the latest call made by the Al-Quds Committee, during its meeting last August 28 in the Moroccan southern city of Agadir. "We expressed in this call, our backing to all efforts made in favor of peace so that the Palestinians recover their rights and that peace reign in the Middle-East," said the release, adding "this call was only an expression of the sincere and responsible will of Al-Quds Committee members and of all the Muslims to contribute to putting an end once and for all to this kind of poignant images that are aired daily by all the media and which constitute a black stain in the history of humanity in the beginning of the millenary."
"Today's generations are filled with hope as to the future and aspire to live a new era based on coexistence, concord and joint action to build a new reality guaranteeing security and stability," King Mohammed VI said, underlining that this ambition cannot be achieved through resorting to the massacre of unarmed civilians, but rather by showing political courage and a firm will and by helping the Palestinians recover their rights, including their right to establish an independent state, with Al-Quds Asharif as capital.
