Oman continues to ease foreign labor out of local jobs
Oman, Business, 10/6/2000
Oman said that it will ban employing foreigners in cars rental companies in the framework of its efforts to provide more jobs for its citizens.
A statement issued by the labor ministry said that the foreigners will not be allowed to work in car rental companies starting from February 2001. Officials sources in the ministry said that this step aims at giving more work chances to the Omani citizens and reducing foreign labor in the country.
Last week, Oman banned foreigners from working in the libraries after being banned from working in many other job classifications last year.
The foreign labor forms nearly 25% of Omani labor. Oman has 2.3 million citizens.
